Proportion compass signed "Menant à Paris", that is to say by Pierre Louis Menant, active in Paris between 1730 and 1750. The French proportion compass is the instrument of mathematics and engineering par excellence of the 17th and 18th centuries. This model is of beautiful design, nicely engraved. It is provided with eight lines: equal parts, plans, calibers of the pieces, polygons, strings, solids, weights of the balls and metals. Good condition of the brass and engraving.
