The box was made at the beginning of the 19th century in Switzerland and plays 4 melodies on a comb with 20 sections (5 teeth each). In the upper left corner of the base plate, one finds the serial number 1118. (This serial number can also be found on the left side of the case). The control levers are at the back, which is very exceptional and indicates a very early box.
The box is in walnut, has the original patina and the original hinges constructed from steel wire. The mechanism is screwed at the bottom of the box. Although the mechanism is not signed, due to its construction, one can attribute it to Duccommun Girod, one of the ‘early’ makers of music boxes
