Superb richely engraved brass bowl with very intricate design: decorative drawing is stylistically overloaded with curvilinear interlacing floral motifs, imitating the Islamic ornamental style.
The bowl appears to be gilded, and is finely accented with silver.
The rim is flattened and the bowl is surrounded for the upper outline by a characteristic ornamental frieze of a stylized chain, while the rim is also decorated with another similar decorative line.
Venice, 15th century
Good condition. Note a slight depression or deformation on the side of the bowl, and a cut V shape, this tip that fits perfectly into the decoration of the cup.
