This teak wood sculpture represents a sage made in the Chinese handicraft tradition at the end of the 19th century: around 1890. It measures a total of 81x27x26 cm.
It is a single block of finely carved wood, highlighting the character's features. In addition to the sage, the sculpture features other interesting details made with care and precision: a scroll held with both hands, a staff and a bird on the sage's left.
The state of preservation is good despite some cracks due to the age. The right eye and two rows of teeth are missing.
