"Printed Reps Table Mat With Imperial Floral Decor - France Second Empire Circa 1860"
Circa 1860 France - Alsace Table mat in wool and cotton rep (or wool and silk) printed with a large floral decoration fashionable during the Second French Empire. Large central rosette and spandrels loaded with natural flowers. Framed with coats of arms in a frieze around the edge in the style of Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc. This print is similar to a design by the Alsatian manufacturer, Thierry-Mieg & Cie (Reference S.1194.21 from the Musée d'Impression sur Etoffes de Mulhouse), see last photo. Unlined table mat decorated with colored trimming fringes on all four sides. Guaranteed Second Empire splendor! Note four to five micro holes that do not compromise the stability and handling of this fabric. Good general condition. Dimensions: 155 cm x 139 cm, fringes 10 cm. Iconography: similar pieces in the catalogue “Folie Textile, Fashion and Decoration under the Second Empire” presented at the Château de Compiègne in 2013, notably page 20.
