Guilleminet Claude Marie (1821-1885) “the Sheep” Oil On Canvas

This large painting depicts a pastoral scene where a shepherd watches over a flock of sheep in a clearing lined with trees. The peaceful atmosphere, soft light and details of the sheep and forest scenery reflect the characteristic style of Claude GUILLEMINET, known for his rural and animal scenes. Claude Marie Guilleminet born January 12, 1821 in Paris died February 8, 1885 in the same city and a French painter specializing in genre scenes. He debuted at the 1856 Salon and also participated in those of 1864 and 1866. His works, often centered on farmyard scenes, are kept in public collections, notably at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier. GUILLEMINET's works continue to be appreciated on the art market. His work is representative of 19th century French painting.
