The artist
Simeon Pelenc was born in Cannes (France) in 1873. He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille, and then practiced the art of fresco intensively for 5 years. Subsequently, he painted frescoes in France, Switzerland and especially in the United States. In 1915, Simeon and his wife took the boat to Bordeaux, for the United States. They moved to San Francisco the following year, where Pelenc hoped to become an architect. In fact, he would paint many murals on public and private buildings in California. He played an important role in the French community in San Francisco and remained active on the local art scene until his death in 1935.
