Oil on panel 46x38 cm "Little girl with a doll" circa 1910
Signed with the studio stamp lower left
Fernand Piet trained in Cormon's studio, which he left in 1887, rejecting academicism, to work in the studios of the Grande Chaumière with Eugène Carrière, Roll, Forain.
He exhibited from 1893 in the Grands Salons Parisiens. He had a taste for sketching and worked regularly in the streets and public gardens of Paris, sketching children's games or picturesque characters from cabarets, in very lively paintings.
Fernand Piet works with a quick and very spontaneous touch to capture the moment in a contrasting palette, as in this charming scene where he subtly captures the expression of the little girl absorbed in her games.
