""portrait Of A Young Woman In A Black Dress" Victor Lecomte, Oil On Panel Circa 1900"
Portrait of a Young Woman in a Black Dress, Oil on Panel circa 1900, painted in low light. The light source is on her left, probably oriented towards the canvas, which creates a surprising chiaroscuro effect, highlighting the modeling of the woman's face in an almost mysterious atmosphere. A few small chips, oval gilded wooden frame measuring 55 x 45 cm, strong cardboard panel 51 x 41 cm, inscribed on the back "Victor Lecomte" Victor Lecomte (1856 – 1920) is one of the artists very present in the collections of the Saint-Maur museum. In 1888, the artist discovered La Varenne with his family and, seduced by the banks of the Marne, settled there until 1914. An outdoor landscape painter, painter of genre scenes and in particular interior scenes, he is also a fine portraitist highlighting the personality of his models. "Portrait by Himself" by Victor Lecomte is an oil on cardboard made in 1917, the last portrait in a long series, in the same palette and light as this portrait of a young woman. A student of Achille Gilbert, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1876 to 1914. Honorable mention in 1892, 3rd class medal in 1897, bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 and 2nd class medal in 1905. Present at the Musée d'Orsay.
