Located in the Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano, near the basilica of the same name, the Lateran Obelisk is the tallest erected of Egyptian origin today in the world. It is made of red granite and is undoubtedly from the Aswan region. Its height is 32.18 meters and it weighs 455 tons. It is the last of the Capitoline obelisks to have been transported to Rome and can be considered the oldest obelisk in Rome.
Our object is a typical souvenir of the Grand Tour. The Grand Tour was the traditional journey made by young men of good family from the 17th to the 19th century as an initiatory journey.
