"Young Woman At The Piano 19th Century Signed Fpcordova"
Oil on mahogany panel Dim without frame 38/46 cm Dim with frame 53/62 cm French School Signed: A Mlle André souvenir 92 FPCordova Our painting could be attributed to Fernand Pelez de Cordova born in Paris on December 25, 1820 and died in the same city on August 21, 1884. A student of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, Fernand Pelez de Cordova made his debut at the Salon of 1849. He obtained a third class medal in 1852. He is the uncle of the painters Fernand Pelez and Raymond Pelez known as Chalumeau2 and the brother of the illustrator Raymond Pelez. The signature can be found on drawings wrongly attributed to Florisa Cordova. Our painting represents a young woman at the piano in an atmosphere bathed in light. The drawing and the touch of paint are very sure, this is a talented painter who masters his subject well. “AMlle André” without an “e” – surprising!
