Miniature on ivory representing the portrait of a notable, signed Boudoux Jean-François (active between 1770 and 1790). Painter, pastellist and miniature painter, who was active in Toulouse and Bordeaux. He exhibited under the name of Boudou, Boudous or Boudoux. According to Guiffrey and Mesuret, this is Jean-François Boudoux, who belonged to a Parisian family three of whose masters were members of the Académie de Saint-Luc. He was a student at the Académie Royale de Toulouse in 1770 and exhibited a pastel portrait, two years later, a student of Antoine Rivals, he showed the copy of a painting by Tomiris. In 1784, he placed several advertisements: Mr. Boudou, painter of portraits in large and miniature, is lodged with Mr. Raynal, master tailor, Place Rouaix, then change of address. Mr. Boudou, miniature painter, is currently staying at Rouzet, Master Tailor, rue des Filatiers, opposite the Lottery Office in Toulouse. He is found in Bordeaux in the autumn of 1784, Mr. Boudoux, miniature painter, is staying at Mr. Clerdonnet, Watchmaker, rue Saint-Rémy at the corner of rue des Lauriers. The same advertisement appeared on April 22, 1786. In 1787, he exhibited several miniature portraits in Toulouse and may have returned to this city that year, at the Toulouse Salons of 1788, 1789 and 1790, he presented miniatures, some of which belonged to the President of Fajac, others to Mr. Baron, jeweler. Miniature in good condition, dimensions excluding hoop H6.8 cm x W6.5 cm, the glass has been replaced by plexiglass.
