The Dancing Faun
Bronze sculpture emblematic of ancient art, dating from the 2nd century BC, it was discovered in 1830 in the eponymous villa in Pompeii. The discovery of this particularly well-preserved bronze marked the beginning of a real craze for this figure and was reproduced throughout the 19th century. In Greek mythology, the dancing faun is a figure associated with the cult of Dionysus. Currently a reproduction of this sculpture is in the atrium of the villa, in its original location, while the original is preserved and exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
