Pipe head, 11cm x 7cm is a small masterpiece of sculpture with 6 characters. It represents Telemachus after his shipwreck on island of Calypso, and his meeting with the goddess and her court.
Scene probably inspired by the many engravings that illustrated this "best seller" by Fénelon from beginning of 18th century.
Underside of pipe, explanatory cartouches, long amber stem complete the exceptional character of this beautiful pipe with their quality.
Case: 23cm x 9cm.
Condition: fairly good, but the beginning of amber stem is broken-glued, one or two heads are also glued, visible with a magnifying glass. Don't blame me, thank you.
