Pair of six-panel screens depicting a scene in which two samurai archers on horseback are in the thick of the battle for the front line during the historic Battle of the Uji River.

Both are armed with bows and quivers loaded with arrows, ready to be shot, while the katana, the distinctive symbol of the Japanese warrior, is secured to their sides.

Signed Yamashita Chikusai (1885-1973).
