A masterpiece by Bontems, manufactured in Paris around 1870. This type of bird automaton is extremely rare - few were already made at the time, and today they are almost impossible to find. A real piece of history, one of a kind.
This beautiful automaton is in restored condition and functions perfectly. The enchanting bird whistles a happy song, with subtle pauses that make the melody even livelier. Meanwhile, it turns its head, moves its tail and opens its beak to the tones of the music - a true spectacle that perfectly captures the magic of craftsmanship from that era.
No two of these automatons are identical. Every detail is unique, from the plats and the shape and painting of the cachepot to the bird itself. This particular specimen stands out for its exceptional quality and detail. A similar automaton is depicted in C. Bailly's book (page 300), although it is immediately striking how refined this bird's feathers are in comparison.
A rare opportunity to own a piece of unique heritage - a feast for the eye as well as the ear!
