"Sterling Silver Processional Cross, Brussels 1842-67, François Juge "
Magnificent and extremely rare processional cross in solid silver. It dates from the middle of the nineteenth century and like many religious objects from this period, it is inspired by liturgical objects of the old regime, notably the Louis XVI style. Made by a Brussels goldsmith of Swiss origin, François Juge (Carouge 1807-1867 Brussels), it is of a high quality of execution and an incredible richness of decorations. Some parts were once gilded but most of the vermeil has disappeared. At the request of the potential purchaser, our restoration workshop could also deboss certain parts. Processional crosses are very rare in the trade, in addition the vast majority is in silver metal. This is only the second time in thirty years that I can offer my customers a processional cross in solid silver ..... Gross weight without the stick: 1800 grams.
