Object description :

"Boxwood Cabinet, 17th Century"
- Rectangular in shape, our cabinet opens on the front with two doors. Their fronts are each decorated with a molded frame in their center (which can be found on the interior faces) and two gilded brass finials on the sides. The latter recall the gold of the lock plates arranged on the doors; the one on the left is in brass while the one on the right is feigned (painted gold), it is this which allows the opening of the two doors. The top of the cabinet is surrounded by a thin molded cornice and the bottom by a thicker, wavy molding, with two rows. These moldings bring texture and underline the lines of force of this cabinet. It rests on four flattened feet, the latter are reported.

- Once opened, a set of seven colored drawers is revealed allowing to hide precious objects for the collector. Each drawer is framed by a fine molding on which a discreet button is placed on the lower rod and each of them is coated with a painting imitating a distinct hard stone: lapis lazuli, green marble, red porphyry, yellow onyx, black marble, noreena jasper, green tourmaline / or jade. A mixture of materials (feigned) that meets the taste of the time for naturalia (the products of nature) and polychromy. These joyful colors offer a pleasant contrast with the dark shade of the boxwood.

- The reduced dimensions of this box add to its preciousness, already established by the meticulous work of design and painting (Height: 17.4 cm, Width: 21.2 cm, Depth: 12.2 cm).

- Good condition of conservation, to be noted: the four reported feet, a lock entry in gold paint.
