Mail Box, Late 17th Century, 48 Gilded Mother-of-pearl On Wood, Circled.

Rare box from the end of the 17th century for placing mail and household papers, allowing them to be placed and transported. Authentic object of its time, superbly made from a set of 48 small original mother-of-pearl leaves, all equal, placed equally on a solid wooden core, the mother-of-pearl leaves are each surrounded by a fine dark metal frame (except below).
The color of the whole is golden brown, probably obtained by a waxed dye which does not affect the mother-of-pearl in any way, which can be seen in small places.
A forged floral motif, affixed to the core, adorns each spandrel. The top of the box is domed, enriching its volume ; The interior is covered with pink domino paper in good condition. The fittings are all original;
