HIGH OFFICER'S SABRE GIFTED BY BARON SCHLEINITZ to his "dear" VON REDEN, Prussian heavy lion's head kavalier sabre in a prunkvoller purpose for officers with coat of arms of the family Freiherr Schleinitz von Reden, Second Reich. 29920 Sabre that most likely belonged to Baron Kurt von Schleinitz. All metal parts in gilded brass. Lion's head pommel with "ruby" eyes; mane of the latter extended on the tail of the cap with floral motifs, and in the middle of it, overflowing shields on the fuse, richly decorated, from its mouth starting the guard branch, called "à la Blücher", going slightly widening in its center, decorated on its face with branches of oak leaves, and a large acanthus leaf at its base, quillon of the guard branch ending with a lion's head. External earring of the guard overloaded with two crossed swords broaching on a crown of laurel and oak leaves; internal earring with shield with the coat of arms of the barons of Reden, an aristocratic family of Lower Saxony. Ferrule enhanced with a series of laurel leaves. Wooden fuse covered with shagreen, with eleven grooves underlined by a triple filigree, piece of felt ensuring the seal with the scabbard. Nickel-plated steel blade, slightly curved, with one edge and two fullers in the central part. On the first third, etched with foliage and scrolls, on one side in a cartouche in gold letters name of the owner "Frhr von Schleinitz s / l von Reden", on the other side, coat of arms of the von Scheinitz family Steel scabbard having retained all of its original blueing. Note: Kurt Hans Julius Freiherr von Schleinitz (born 18 April 1859 in Oberförsterei Kunersdorf, Zauch-Belzig district, Brandenburg province; died 5 June 1928 in Berlin-Zehlendorf), Prussian major general and commander of the German protection force in East Africa. Son of Baron Gustav von Schleinitz (1820–1888) and Marie Elsholtz, was a descendant of the Prussian line of the old Meissen noble family von Schleinitz. Military career In 1879 he became a general officer and in 1880 a second lieutenant in the 2nd Guards Infantry Regiment and in 1888 in the Guards Rifle Battalion. In 1889 he became a first lieutenant, in 1890 he was transferred to the Mecklenburg Rifle Regiment No. 90 and in 1894 he was a captain in the Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 89. In 1897, on April 1, the 3rd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 162 was formed, including from the half-battalions of the Mecklenburg Brigade, and Schleinitz was transferred to Lübeck as part of the 89th. On July 22, 1900, Schleinitz joined the Schutztruppe as a captain. In 1905 and 1906 he participated in the suppression of the Maji Maji Rebellion. Since May 28, 1907, he commanded the German East Africa Protection Force. In this role he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on 1 October 1912. During World War I promoted to colonel in retirement. Then commanded the Landsturm Infantry Regiment No. 26 and finally promoted to major general on 30 March 1918.95
