Early 20th Century, 1920.
Vacheron Constantin is one of the oldest and most renowned watchmakers in the world, and the oldest to have been continuously producing since its foundation. The Maison was founded on 17 September 1755 in the Genevan district of Saint-Gervais by the
Jean-BaptisteMarc Vacheron (1731-1805). Initially, the watchmaking atelier was composed of Jean-Marc and an apprentice.
In 1785, the founder’s sons, Louis André and Abraham Vacheron, took over the company.
The watch dynasty of his son Louis André ends in the early 1930s and the company’s management is taken over by Abraham, the sole heir.
During the years of his administration, the Maison passed in 1810 to his son Jacques Barthélémi (grandson of the founder)
With Jacques Barthélémi, he begins the production of more complicated pieces. In 1819, a skilled textile merchant named François Constantin, who had already worked in the watch industry, joined the company.
Constantin is at the origin of the watchword of the manufacture "do better if it’s possible, and it always is"...
