Very rare and sumptuous Louis XV period coffee pot in solid silver. It is hallmarked with the marks of the city of Tournai for the year 1775 and the master goldsmith's mark of Laurent Detombe. The chain pin of the hinge allows the lid to be easily removed. Its body and lid are entirely decorated with twisted ribs and rest on three feet with cast silver scrolls. Its carved and blackened wooden handle is in good condition. As is often the case with Tournai goldsmiths, the coffee pot is rather heavy for its size in comparison with goldsmiths from other cities in the Austrian Netherlands. It weighs a generous and exceptional 1450 grams. Price: €4,250
