A helmet consisting of a dome, called a hachi, with sixteen radiating iron blades, entirely riveted, the top opening of which, called a hachimanza, is encircled by a brass ornament in the shape of a chrysanthemum; a visor, called a mabizashi, decorated with fabric, tapestry nails and trimmings and supporting the maedate, a removable gilded copper ornament depicting the Ryū dragon. On either side were large horns, known as kuwagata - which have now disappeared.
The inside of the dome retains its protective cloth.
