Always directed towards novelty, he modernized the forms of traditional pottery of Provence. In 1953, he opened his first workshop in Vallauris, with Robert Picault, before being joined by Jean Derval. This period is the golden age of ceramics: Vallauris then welcomed Pablo Picasso, Madoura, Jean Marais. and many other renowned artists. Roger Capron received numerous awards during his career, including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale and Expo '58 in Brussels. In 2000, the New York Times wrote that Capron was “one of the most prolific and important artisans of postwar European design.” He died in 2006. The ceramicist gained international fame, and by the 1950s his work was already being sold on Fifth Avenue in New York, at Saks Fifth Avenue and Gimbels.
