This dish, evoking a colorful kaleidoscope, incorporates a Manhattan skyscraper inspired by the Art Deco style, in reference to New York, a city dear to the artist. The theme of “The Big Apple” is revisited through towers with laughing faces, mixing modernity and references to Native American totems. Biography of James Rizzi: James Rizzi (1950-2011), American Pop Art painter, is known for his colorful and stylized works depicting urban scenes, often inspired by New York, his hometown. Born in Brooklyn, he studied fine arts at the University of Florida, where he developed a unique 3D graphic technique combining painting, engraving and sculpture. Revealed to the public in 1974 during an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, his naïve and playful style quickly seduced museums and galleries around the world. His work extends to the design of everyday objects, such as telephone cards, CD covers or limited editions of accessories. Rewarded with numerous awards, James Rizzi left a lasting mark on Pop Art. He was also involved with several charities. Until his death in 2011, he lived and worked in a loft studio in SoHo, Manhattan.
