Saint Teresa of Avila A brilliant young woman loved by those close to her, she entered the Monastery of the Incarnation in Avila at the age of 20. There she took the name Thérèse of Jesus and discovered in silent prayer (oration) the place of friendship and intimacy with Christ. Passionately eager to share her experience and put it at the service of the Church, she committed herself to founding Reformed Carmels to follow Christ more closely in prayer, poverty and the simplicity of a fraternal life. She left us a prodigious written work to help us walk and work in the service of the gospel, good news of God's love for all.
