"Animal Bronze After Antonio Pollaiuolo "the Capitoline Wolf" 20th Century"
This animal bronze "The Capitoline Wolf" after Antonio Pollaiuolo (1429-1498) has a medal patina, on a travertine stone base. The original in bronze has been kept in the Capitoline Museum in Rome since its donation by Pope Sixtus in 1471. The protective she-wolf and foster mother of the twins Remus and Romulus, the latter of whom, according to legend, founded Rome. This large bronze, 23 cm high by 40 cm wide, is very naturalistic in its sculpture. The she-wolf is on the alert, her jaw open with sharp teeth, the fur from the nape of the neck to the end of the tail is engraved with a perfectly chiseled flame-shaped lock motif.
