Monogrammed Sw (bottom right) for Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines unmarked D. 23.5 cm Porcelain from the time of Alexander I is rarely marked. The colors of the painting as well as the design of the flag with its wide old rose colored band are typical of plates from this period. Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines, also called Fontaine (* March 19, 1769 in Metz; † December 10, 1823 in Paris) Swebach was not only a French painter and lithographer. He worked as a painter in various porcelain factories, including the Sèvres Porcelain Factory from 1802 to 1813. As the porcelain painting lacked the necessary quality, Tsar Alexander I appointed him artistic director of the Saint Petersburg Porcelain Factory from 1815 to 1820. He then concentrated on battle paintings as well as genre and hunting scenes. Inv. No. 0.745 €2,750
