Object description :

"Antique Isfahan Carpet, Hand-knotted Wool & Silk, 137 X 207 Cm, Second Part Of The 19th Century Kadjar"
Isfahan or Isfahan carpet, in wool with added silk, hand-knotted. Very fine, it measures 137 cm wide by 207 cm long. Magnificent decoration for this type of Persian considered to be the finest and most elegant carpets in Iran, the Persia of the Kadjars, also called "the Empire of Roses". ## Museum quality carpet from the second half of the 19th century, knotted under the Kadjar dynasty. The decoration of this piece uses traditional floral motifs that appear on carpets from the 16th and 17th centuries. These extraordinary decorations are found in palaces, mosques, on old ceramics and all other objects. Note the presence of a niche with floral and animal decoration that is often found on very old Isfahan carpets from the 16th and 17th centuries.
A small detail that is of capital importance in the design of these pieces, this type of carpet was not intended for prayer but designed for decoration, while keeping the idea of earthly paradise.
We easily recognize in the interlacing of roses present on the field and on the borders, often knotted on these exceptional carpets.
The border, decorated with birds perched in branches and its counter-borders sown with carnations are most sophisticated, as the arrangement of the interlacing and flowers is of great finesse as well as the associated nuances.
The design of the central mihrab specific to the prayer carpet or prayer shape, and the patterns of the two spandrels forming the dome, testify to great research and great precision of work.
From the base of the niche where two cranes (symbol of fidelity) frolic fixing two deer, a flowering tree of life soars in the center, where many birds frolic.
From a large bouquet of roses and trees nestle a second plan or deer and birds give the carpet a vision of earthly paradise, will of the knotter.
The colors are pleasant and remained fresh, wine lees, Prussian blue, steel blue, ochre, clay red, olive green, pale blue and cream are shades that we find in the repertoire of these carpets and of this period and these bright tones express the joy of living.
We have great difficulty imagining the infinite patience that was required and that is still required today, for the creation of such a beautiful piece. Density of approximately 640,000 knots per M2 for a thickness of approximately five millimeters.
The edges are in good condition, the velvet also, our piece remains in magnificent condition of use, it is above all a collector's item, a true artifact of Persian culture under the Kadjar Dynasty.
This type of carpet proves the precise and acute artistic sense of the craftsmen of Isfahan.
The quality of the wool used is a major asset, as well as the use of silk, allows a beautiful shine and the enhancement of tones.
The use and solidity of vegetable colors have allowed the conservation of this type of carpet.
The remarkable fineness of the fabric due to a low and precise shaving, of a very fine cotton warp and weft allows a fineness of carpet combining great robustness.
Isfahan is the great city of art of Iran, even today. Under the reign of Shah Abbas, the reputation of this city in the artistic sector was of the most important.
This city has produced very great artists, and some of the most beautiful carpets in the world.
This carpet has been cleaned professionally and in an ecological way.
