Large ROUND pewter DISH with a plain and raised wing, engraved in the center with a crowned armorial motif charged with a tower and held by a lion on the left and a horse on the right, with a castle and two areas of ermine speckles, accompanied by the motto "AVANCEZ". On the wing a round cartouche with the letter H surrounded by the motto "Honi (sic) soit qui mal y pense", allusive of Edward III, Henry VII and the Order of the Garter.
Hallmarking:
1° - control with crowned X.
2° - hallmark of James KIDD active in Liverpool and London, cited in 1768 and 1769.
Diameter: 42.2 cm.
LONDON or LIVERPOOL, Early 19th century


The universities of technology in Gothenburg, Lund and Stockholm were founded in 1829 with donations from William Chalmers, a wealthy Gothenburg merchant whose motto was "Advance".
Some cracks at the junction of the wing and the jamb are noted as well as general oxidation
