Old pastel representing an elegant young woman wearing a pink dress. Presented in an oval wooden & gilded stucco frame. 49.5cm high. Dated 1919 and signed by the artist Jules Girardet: Very good condition. 1856-1938, painter, pastellist, watercolourist, decorator. Coming from a family of artists, Jules Girardet studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became a student of Alexandre Cabanel. The artist travelled to North Africa with his brother Eugène, an orientalist, but preferred to devote himself to history painting and portraiture, which he exhibited in Switzerland and France. Girardet was awarded a medal at the Paris Salon in 1881 and won the silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1889. He created a decorative panel for the Grand Council Hall in Neuchâtel
