"Saint Bernard Preaching The 2nd Crusade At Vezelay, Attributed To Emile Signol, Drawing And Watercolor"
Perhaps a first thought for the preaching of Saint Bernard in Vezelay. The presence of a soldier wearing a crusader's shield clearly indicates that it is the 2nd crusade. Saint Bernard, to the left of King Louis VII, reads a manuscript. The device is frontal and symmetrical unlike the final composition. Drawn in silverpoint and watercolored in the lower part, the work is unsigned, an old annotation on the back: A rust stain at the top left, light dusting.
