"Louis XVI Period Writing Table And Tric Trac Or Backgammon Games Table From The 18th Century"
Louis XVI period trictrac or backgammon table in mahogany veneer, mounted on wooden casters. This table furnished the company lounges of noble residences, to entertain guests. The originality of this table lies not only in its format which is less elongated than usual, but also and above all in the presence of flaps on the sides to place the pieces. The tapered and fluted base, and the presence of triglyphs in the corners of the belt, make this table a work marked by the neoclassical style. The games table has a double-sided top, veneered with mahogany in one direction and covered with a gilded leather blotter with small irons on the other. This games table could therefore also be used as a writing table. The old leather has been preserved in its original condition and therefore shows traces of use.
