This painting can be located in Trieste at the Miramare Castle (Italy) which can be seen in the background: home of the emperor and empress. Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg-Lorraine, born July 6, 1832 in Vienna and shot on June 19, 1867 at Cerro de Las Campanas in Santiago de Querétaro (Mexico) was an Archduke of Austria, Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, who became Emperor of Mexico under the name of Maximilian I in 1864. Younger brother of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I, he married Princess Charlotte of Belgium in 1857.
