"Marly Horse Clock In Gilded And Silvered Bronze, Restoration Period, 19th Century"
Marly horse clock, after the work of the sculptor Guillaume Coustou. In 1739, the latter had received an order from King Louis XV for two sculpted groups to decorate the watering trough of the Château de Marly. A spirited horse is grappling with the groom (Native American slave), who is trying to control the rearing animal. The horse was made of silver-plated bronze (oxidation) while the subject of the groom was gilded with gold, as was the base of the clock. The mechanism is signed Pons, for the clockmaker Honoré Pons 1773-1851. Patina to be cleaned, the pendulum is missing and needs to be serviced.
