Simpler and more sober, but still refined in its minute details, the Louis XVI style is characterised by the geometric rigour of the ornamentation and the sharpness of the furniture's volumes.
This is an inlaid and threaded Louis XVI chest of drawers in walnut, bois de rose and walnut interior, measuring 120 x 90 x 60 cm from the second half of the 18th century with a linear structure and a refinement of the inlays that lead back to the Maggiolini workshop.
In the two lower drawers, the separation is not highlighted, thus creating a large mirror in the dark, polished walnut sheen with the veneer arranged in a herringbone pattern.
On this a rectangular frame with a repetitive leaf motif encloses a circle with a large scene with mythological characters.
In the under-shelf drawer, the decoration emphasises its horizontal nature. A frame similar to that of the two drawers, but of smaller proportions, encloses a decoration formed by floral motifs that punctuate pearlised festoons.
The same frame can be found on the sides where it frames other mythological characters with a beautiful play of woods that give colour and warmth to the piece of furniture itself, while on the horizontal plane we find a still life theme, very unusual and very fine, executed with great care and elegance.
The tapered legs have on their four sides a phytomorphic motif set in a frame that emphasises the shape, the dado stands out darkly and with decoration, having on the sides a fine decorative curl that is only found on the most important chests of drawers, here on all four legs.
Looking at it in its essence, it appears to us to be a truly refined chest of drawers, warm in colour and excellently united in the construction of the woods; to this we add the unique inlay, almost unrepeatable despite the large number of Louis XVI chests of drawers on the market, which make it special and differentiate it from the masses precisely because of these delicate and fine details that enhance its appearance and its elegance.
The dresser, in perfect condition, comes from a private home.
