Indeed according to mythology the anchor is one of the symbols of Poseidon God of the seas and oceans, it is also the meaning of stability (of an anchored ship) then according to Christian tradition the anchor symbolizes hope. (to life, family attachment). This brings us back to the theme of the clock "hope nourishing love". the bas relief on the theme of friendship is a resumption by Jean André REICHE of bas relief appearing on the clock called "the negress" by the bronzier Etienne Martincourt, made by the clockmakers André FURET and GODON for Marie Antoinette and not acquired by her. It was bought by Thierry de ville-d'avay Director of the furniture repository of the crown. This model by Reiche is inventoried in 1817 in the chapter of its old models. it is to be compared by its composition to the clock "the shipwreck" By Jean A. REICHE on anonymous drawing kept at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.
