We do not know the name of the artist who designed and knotted this floral medallion piece, but the richness of the decor, its central motif imprinted with a large medallion brings a harmony completed by the delicate dosage of colors.
Varied flowers, interlacing and arabesques that adorn this work are characteristic of the period from the end of the 19th century to the First World War. The central medallion motif is designed and wishes to represent a large basin present in a flowery park with bold flowerbeds.
Looking closely at the drawing, we appreciate the multitude of details and its delicacy.
This pattern is surrounded by many other flowers covering the field mixed with interlacing in the manner of sinuous branches.
The wide border, composed of varied patterns, palmettes and alternating branches is inspired by ancient models from Herat.
These old pieces are finer than modern pieces and the decorations are often a thousand times more abundant, richer, more extraordinary in the patterns by approaching the decorations of the 16th century.
The delicate colors blend wonderfully together.
We do not observe any reduction in pile, the kork wool used is of first quality because of a great finesse in its preparation.
The colors are fresh, soft and delicate, certainly they have lost their vigor but without loss of color and not insolated.
The velvet is tight, the fringes short, the selvedges in good condition, the whole in good condition
This piece was knotted under the Kadjar dynasty which ended in 1925.
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in the center of Iran. At the time of the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Finely woven carpets of great richness of composition were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas. They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets that are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, from the name of the most famous master weaver of the end of the 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer a meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, subjects with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs. This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
