Guido Gambone is one of the most important and influential Italian ceramic artists of the mid-20th century. He was born in Montella, Avellino in Italy in 1909, and moved with his parents to Vietri in 1927. He began his career at the local pottery in Avallone, continued his training at the Manifattura Artistica Ceramica Salernitana before joining the famous ICC (Industria Ceramica Salernitana). He became artistic director of the ICC in 1935. He then created his potteries, La Faenzerella in Vietri and later La Tirrena in Florence. Gambone's work fuses painting, primitivism, tradition and modern art movements.
