Object description :

"Saint-louis. “berger” Lamp In Amethyst Cut Crystal • Art Deco Period."
SAINT-LOUIS.

Beautiful, antique, slightly domed, ovoid Lampe Berger in translucent, amethyst-lined, multi-layer blown crystal, using the overlay technique.
Elegant two-tone cold-cut decoration of stylized curved and beveled sawtooth motifs decorate the body of the object, as well as cut panels.
The lamp is topped by its “Berger” mechanism, concealed beneath a patinated, openwork metal (bronze?) cover, also highly decorative and a perfect match for the object's design.

- Art Deco period, circa 1930.

Manufacture Royale de SAINT-LOUIS (France);
Antique model, therefore unsigned.

However, the model is not unknown: a simple Internet search will turn up photos of similar lamps, attesting to the fact that this one was produced by Saint-Louis.

Inside the lamp, too, the Berger signature is engraved on the mechanism (see photo no. 3).
The mechanism has not been checked, and appears to be partially incomplete (see “Condition report” below).  Indeed, at least one stone needs to be added, and the mechanism revised (the wick seems to be in good condition).
Nevertheless, the glassware - and this is the most precious, the most interesting - is perfectly preserved.
What's more, the design, typically Art Deco, is at once innovative, classic and elegant; the Amethyst hue is quite rare.

- DIMENSIONS -
- total height of the Lamp, with its stopper, 17.30 CM ;
- the height of the glassware alone (without the Berger mechanism) is approx. 13.00 CM;
- the diameter at the base (bottom) is 06.30 CM ;
- the maximum span, at the largest point (center), is approx. 08.50 CM.
- CONDITION REPORT,
STATE OF PRESERVATION -

The crystal part of the lamp itself is in excellent condition: there are no chips, no particular wear; the crystal is beautiful, bright and limpid, as is the amethyst color, intact and vivid.

Minor signs of use may be noted, but they are absolutely invisible and of no consequence: very faint, fine scratches on the reverse of the base (not visible when the lamp is in place).
Nothing serious, nor visible. No impact whatsoever.
See photos n°5 and following.
The lamp remains in perfect condition.

Concerning the mechanism: it has to be “cobbled together”.
The mechanism has not been tested, and doesn't seem to work a priori.
It seems necessary to add a stone.

In addition, there is minor wear on one of the lids (photo no. 7), and a small spot to be cleaned on the main lid (photo no. 8).

Beyond that, however, the lamp remains in excellent condition.
The crystal base is intact, unaltered, and that seems to be the main thing.

A beautiful and rare item.
