Small PITCHER with a shoulder in pewter, with acorn lid, palmette thumb rest with 5 rays and plinth foot.
Gauging hallmark with lily already noted accompanied by the control of 1762.
Height: 14.8 cm.
ROUEN, Second half of the 18th century

This small gauge is the only one to present this type of thumb rest in Rouen production.
Rare and in very good condition
Let us recall in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. The capacity of those used in inns, drinking establishments, etc., had to be checked periodically by the royal or ecclesiastical authorities to ensure "good measure" for the consumer, but in fact, this regulation was rarely applied and pitchers bearing gauging marks are very rare
