Brief biography:
From the age of eight, a photo from the time shows him in front of his easel. Around 1901, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he took classes with Zacharie. Around 1903, the great art lover F. Depaux noticed him. At his home, Robert-Antoine Pinchon frequented Lebourg, Pissarro and Monet who defined him as follows: "an astonishing touch at the service of a surprising eye". Barely an adult, he exhibited in Paris. Critics spoke of "his furious yellow and blue tones". In 1909, he founded with Dumont, Hodé and Tirvert the "Société Normande de Peinture Moderne" which invited Braque, Matisse, Dufy, Vlaminck, Derain, Marquet, Friez, Picabia, etc. to its events. Then Pinchon was part of the "XXX" group created by Pierre Dumont. In 1909, when he was only twenty-three, four of his paintings entered the Rouen Museum (Depeaux legacy). Mobilized during the 1914-1918 war, he was taken prisoner. On his return to New York, where the great exhibition of French Art was held, he sent four paintings which all sold. From 1924 to 1940 he exhibited in Paris at the Galerie Reitlinger, rue de La Boétie, and each time the critics agreed to call him a "painter of light". In 1940, he exhibited for the last time at the Hôtel de la Couronne in Rouen. He died in January 1943.
