These necklaces are believed to be made with Venetian beads that arrived in India in the 19th century.
Such necklaces were worn by women of various tribes in Eastern India and sometimes covered the entire body with threads hanging from the neck and shoulders.
The women of the "Bonda" tribe, protected from Orissa wear beads as their main form of clothing.
