"Tanto. Blade Incised With A Dragon. Japan Edo Period Or Before."
The blade is chiseled with a dragon. It is very damaged, but does not seem to have been ground. We can distinguish its temper. The tsuba is made of iron without decoration. The kashira is made of iron chiseled in the shape of a closed flower. Good quality. The kozuka is, on the visible side, made of iron inlaid flat with gilded copper flowers and on the hidden side in copper. The fuchi is made of iron inlaid with gilded copper flowers, in relief. The scabbard is in black lacquer, discreetly decorated with stylized subjects in slight relief, which I think are deer. At the bottom it has been cut, we can see clues that tell us that it is a reuse or a wakizashi cut to make a tanto. The blade is blocked in the handle. We have not disassembled it, we leave the pleasure to a specialist. This is a Tanto recomposed of various elements from the Edo period, some of which are probably much older, such as the kozuka or the fushi, which could be from the Muromachi period. Length: 30cm
