The Borre Style
One of the earliest styles of Viking art, the Borre style was widespread in Scandinavia from the late 9th to the late 10th century. The style takes its name from a group of bronze harness supports discovered in a ship grave at Borre, Vestfold, Norway. The style is characterized by a range of geometric and zoomorphic motifs and the occasional captivating beast. A similar sword scabbard form was found in Birka, Sweden, Grave 496 and is on display at the Swedish Historical Museum: https://samlingar.shm.se/object/0BE9627D-B00E-48A1-800D-69B7CF0C1B94.
