"Early 20th Century Thonet Bentwood Parrot Coat Stand"
An early 20th-century antique bentwood coat and hat stand in the manner of Thonet. It features a small turned finite at the center, standing proudly above the structure, and eight serpentine coat hooks with elegant scrolled forms. Delightful lobed under-hooks are ideal for hats, gloves, or umbrellas. The stand rests on four splayed legs with stretchers and squat bun feet. Crafted in France circa 1920, this versatile hat rack was designed in the style of German-Austrian cabinet maker Michael Thonet (1796–1871). The hall tree boasts two rows of eight hooks, allowing it to function as a dual-purpose hat and coat rack. It is further adorned with a decorative finial at the pediment and features a wide, sturdy base, supported by four legs and complemented by a ring to hold umbrellas upright. The coat rack is in excellent condition, commensurate with its age and use, and displays a rich, light walnut patina throughout. This antique bentwood coat rack exudes an abundance of country house charm, with solid joints and sturdy construction.
