Pierre Miciol was born on December 19, 1833 in Lyon. He studied engraving at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he won first prize. He went to Rome to perfect his glass painting technique at the same time as he specialized in stained glass. He was awarded the second Prix de Rome in 1858. After a stay at the Villa Medici, he settled in Lyon from 1866 where he founded a glass painting workshop. He was a member of the jury of the Lyon Exhibition in 1894, sculpture and engraving section. Pierre Miciol died on October 10, 1905 in his hometown.
