Hélène Martin, an artist from Marseille, joined the Péano group around 1945 and took part in the workshops of the Union Nationale des Arts Plastiques with Seyssaud and Max Papart. Around 1950, she painted landscapes of Marseille and the Var with angular shapes and contrasting colours, always rich in material, influenced by Chabaud. A well-rounded artist, she explored different techniques from the 1960s onwards, ceramics, sculpture and assemblages. She then gradually moved towards a so-called "singular" art. A friend of César, she took part in numerous exhibitions. A documentary made for Arte was dedicated to her in 2008.
