Jacques Adrien Sauzay was a student of the great Italian painter Alberto Pasini who introduced him to landscape painting. He devoted himself completely to landscapes, Sologne whose wildness he adored, the trees with bizarre shapes, the old dilapidated houses, the banks of the Seine whose vaporous mists seduced him.
In 1863, the Count of Moüy had acquired ''l'Étang de Bobigny'' and in 1870, the Emperor brought it into his private collection with ''a view of the Village de la Garenne''. From 1863 onwards, he took part in all the painting exhibitions in Paris, where he received the following awards:
1880, mentioned at the Paris exhibition
1881, 3rd class medal at the Paris exhibition
1883, 2nd class medal at the Paris exhibition (Out of competition).
He also took part in the universal exhibitions in Paris, where he received the bronze medal in 1889 and the bronze medal in 1900.
