"Estuary Landscape With Villagers And Fishermen. School Of Jan Brueghel The Younger 17th Century"
Oil on oak panel Presented in a beautiful frame (17th century) with reversed profile, in vigorously molded and blackened wood. Framed size: 33 x 39 cm. The panel alone: 19 x 24 cm Jan Brueghel the Younger is a Flemish Baroque painter born in 1601 and died in 1678. He is the son of Jan Brueghel the Elder, grandson of Pieter Brueghel the Elder and nephew of Pieter Brueghel the Younger. Around 1615, at the age of fourteen, he joined forces with his friend Anthony van Dyck, himself only sixteen years old, and they created their own workshop. His second son is the painter Abraham Brueghel (1631-1690). His work takes up the main subjects of his father, but his touch is more personal. In our painting, the painter describes with precision a scene of daily life dotted with anecdotal details that remind us that we are indeed in Flanders. On the banks of an estuary, villagers converse near a house. Fishermen land and a rider continues on his way with his dog. On a mound, a windmill. The characters are painted with just a few touches of color. The succession of different planes with dominant blue, green and brown tones, leads us towards a misty horizon where the sky and the sea mingle. The painting, recently cleaned, has regained a beautiful and bright palette of original colors. Sold with a certificate.
